Apple TV, Not iTV, To Be Announced Today?

Chances are Apple is releasing an updated version of its Apple TV product today, but it might not use the heavily rumored iTV name. Instead, the new product might keep the original name of Apple TV. At least that Australian Macworld is saying, which makes us wonder where the iTV name came from.
Perhaps iTV was simple an internal codename for the product, likely referring to the updating iOS operating system its said to run. After all, saying “iTV” around the office is a lot easier than “the new Apple TV, you know, the one with iOS.” Or perhaps some random fanboy made it up along the way and it stuck. You may recall the iTV was originally the name of the product back in 2007, but perhaps the ITV of British broadcasting fame had something to do with the name change back then. The station did recently state that they “vigorously defend” its IP, but that’s never stopped Apple before.
No matter, we only have a few hours before the Stevenote starts, so place your bets: Apple TV or iTV?

Apple Enables Music Streaming To iOS Devices From iDisk

While Apple's rumored cloud-based iTunes service hasn't surfaced yet, something similar has been released by the fruity company. The iDisk app has been updated, and it now allows its devices to stream music to iOS devices from the online storage of iDisk. The updated version of iDisk supports background music streaming and public file sharing among multiple devices simultaneously. There are still some pretty obvious limitations, such as the lack of playlist support, and the fact that 20GB might not be enough to support your entire music library. You’ll need a MobileMe subscription in order to enjoy this, so if you've already got said subscription and an iOS device, why not give it a test drive?

Video: Dirt 3 Drives Its Way Into Our Hearts, Now With Random Exploding Trucks
One of the more popular games ‘round these parts last year was Dirt 2, the Codemasters-developed offroad racing game. “Will there be a sequel?” Yes, and it will be called Dirt 3.
This is the game’s debut trailer, and it debuted during ESPN’s coverage of the X Games last night.
The game uses an updated version of the engine that powered Dirt 2 and Grid, which I actually preferred to Dirt 2 if only because I’m not as into offroading as some of the other chaps here. The new engine debuts with the upcoming Formula 1 2010, a game I briefly played at E3.
It was quite good, and I look forward to wasting (“investing”) many hours in it when it comes out in September.
Anyhow, Dirt 3 is scheduled for a 2011 release.

Spirit iPhone jailbreak updated, plays nice with iTunes 9.2

There is an updated version of the Spirit iPhone jailbreak, where it will now work nicely with iTunes 9.2. This might come across as good news for folks who already have iTunes 9.2 up and running on their machine and want to use Spirit to jailbreak their iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, but bear in mind that this is not an iOS 4 jailbreak. It does look likely, however, that a public version of Spirit for the iPhone 4 will happen when Apple releases their iOS 4.01 update later tomorrow in order to combat the Death Grip saga that cropped up with the iPhone 4 release.

Droid X Gets Official, Coming to Verizon on July 15 for $200
Well AT&T has the iPhone 4, Sprint has the Evo 4G and T-Mobile... well T-Mobile is really nice. Now, Verizon can play the super phone game too with the official announcement of the Droid X. The specs are exactly what were expected: a 4.3-inch screen, 1Ghz processor, 8-megapixel camera with flash and HD video capabilities, HDMI out and the usual assortment of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS. On the software side, the enormous Droid X will be running Android 2.1 with an updated version of Motorola's Blur, and it even comes prepackaged with the Swype typing app and Motorola's true multitouch keyboard.
If you're eligible for an upgrade at any point in 2010, you'll be able to pick one up for $199 (after a $100 mail-in rebate) starting on July 15. That $200 will net you not only a gorgeous media-focused phone with 8GB of internal storage, but also a 16GB microSD card for loading even more videos, music and apps on to your phone.

Palm prepares new hardware

We all know that the Palm Pre and Pre Plus are pretty old by now, with the base hardware unveiled to the masses over a year and a half ago, but this probably means that Palm isn't just going to sit back and let everyone else steamroll over them. Palm recently let it known that they are working on new devices alongside an updated version of the operating system, where either one (or even better, both) will be unveiled sometime next year. It would be interesting to see how Palm’s acquisition by HP pans out, and hopefully we won’t get targeted ads on future Palm devices like HP printers.
