Samsung Galaxy S to get FroYo update
We already know that the Samsung Galaxy S will be getting the Android 2.2 (otherwise known as FroYo) update in due time, but when is the big question that remains unanswered. A quick peek at Samsung UK's Twitter page reveals that it will be out

Wondering when the Galaxy S will be getting its own cup full of Froyo, the 2.2 build that every Google handset is screaming for? Samsung promised that an update would be coming not long after release, and now courtesy of the company's official UK Twitter feed we know it's due in September. At least, Samsung is saying it's coming in September. That company has shattered our little hearts before with its broken promises, and we'd sure hate to see it happen again.

Samsung Galaxy S spotted running leaked Android 2.2 update
We were talking about the leaked Android 2.2 update yesterday for the Samsung Galaxy S, and it sure didn't take too long for someone to install it on an actual Galaxy S, where you can check it out running just fine in a video right after the jump. Bear in mind that the leaked FroYo update for the Galaxy S is still a test ROM, and you can expect way more updates to come before it is certified for use with everyone else. One of the more interesting features in this update would be the rotation lock which the Galaxy S also sports in the quick notification bar which will prevent the screen's automatic orientation.

HTC beginning Froyo rollout tomorrow? Maybe, maybe not
HTC Europe director Mark Moons caused quite a stir this morning when he tweeted that the company would begin rolling out Android Froyo updates to devices tomorrow, starting with the Desire, but we wouldn't get too excited yet -- HTC tells us that it's possible a rollout will begin tomorrow, but nothing's finalized yet pending some final testing. We've certainly got our fingers crossed -- and we're sure Desire owners the world over will be hitting that System Updates button nonstop for the next few days.

Safari Update Adds Extensions Gallery, Twitter and Bing Support
This morning, Apple unveiled the latest version of its Safari 5 browser, replete with revamped extensions support and a sparkling new extensions gallery. The new browser allows users to download extensions directly from a third-party developer's site, or from the new gallery, which Engadget describes as "the App Store for browser add-ons." So far, the gallery includes extensions from heavy hitters like Amazon, eBay, MLB.com, the New York Times and Twitter. And, given the relative ease with which extensions can be constructed with HTML5, JavaScript or CSS, users should expect to see more additions to the extensions gallery in the near future. It's great that Safari is finally getting Extensions, but, let's be honest, it's a little late to the browser add-ons party. Netflix PS3 App Gets Search Function Via Update
It might be a no-brainer for many folks, but it's surprising to note that the original Netflix streaming application for the PS3 didn't offer a search feature, and the only way for users to browse movies outside of the Netflix queue was to dig through specific genre categories and recommendation lists. Fortunately this has been sorted out, as the application has received a useful little update that enables the user to search the entire Netflix library by typing out the title of a movie. A similar function should be reaching the Xbox 360 version of the Netflix app sometime this November.
