New Potato’s FLPR IR dongle gives your iPhone home automation capabilities

It's hard to say why we've seen a glut of these adapters hit all within the same week, but hey, the more the merrier! North Carolina's own New Potato Technologies (yes, we're serious) has followed up on ThinkFlood and Power A's efforts by introducing an Infrared iPhone / iPod touch dongle of its own. The difference? This one connects to the dock connector, and when used with the accompanying app, it can control lights, stereo systems, home cinemas and pretty much anything that allows dictation via IR. The best part just might be said app, as it allows users to search a database of over 14,000 device codes and just add the products they already own, which means that you'll probably only be stuck programming that LaserDisc player you refuse to give up. It'll start shipping today from the company's own website for $79.99, or you can consult the middleman (read: Best Buy) on starting on March 28th.

RedEye Mini IR Transmitter Transforms iPhones Into Universal Remote Controls For $49 [Universal Remote]
ThinkFlood has just killed the first RedEye product which went on sale in December for $188, with the massively-superseding RedEye Mini. It costs only $49 and plugs into the iPhone's 3.5mm jack instead of via a clunky plastic dock.
It's by no means the first universal remote control peripheral for the iPhone, with L5 plugging into the dock connector, and Fastmac and Power A providing the IR transmitter in a case.
The RedEye Mini connects to the jack, and after entering a unique code into your iPhone or iPod it then loads the app, which provides the interface for controlling your TV, stereo, or other home devices. Changing TV channels can be achieved by flicking the iPhone around like it's a wii-mote, and dragging two fingers down the screen turns the volume down. [ThinkFlood via Engadget]
UPDATE: Apparently, unlike the first RedEye, the RedEye Mini doesn't support more than one room, and there's no need to enter a code to download the app either.

Fastmac iV Plus Is an iPhone Battery Case That’s Also a Universal Remote [Battery]
Fastmac, who know how to make iPhone backup chargers, just made a more form-fitting version that also has an IR port. That means your iPhone is now a universal remote.
With their included app, the iPhone 3G and 3GS can control basically any IR-sensitive device you have as long as it's docked into the case. The case itself has a 1300 mAh battery, a built-in flash, a USB port for charging another device, and an on-off toggle. The price is $100, which is slightly higher than normal cases, but normal cases can't turn your TV on and off. It also has neat functions like being aware of your local channel guide and jumping to the correct channel, like a real grown-up universal remote.
No solid word on availability yet. [Fastmac]
