In addition to 12.1-megapixel resolution, it features "an advanced DIGIC 4 Image Processor with evolved Face Detection Technology and the Face Detection Self-Timer for extraordinary control and performance." DIGIC 4 also makes possible the i-Contrast (Intelligent Contrast Correction) system, which controls the compensation level in pixel units to brighten dark areas while leaving bright areas unchanged for better images where the main subject is dark, and more natural transition.

Fujifilm makes more advances with the FinePix F80EXR and Z700EXR digital cameras, where the former offers 12-megapixels of goodness alongside a 10x optical zoom, a 3" LCD display, 720p HD movie capture, face recognition, auto picture rotation and something that we've not come across until today - Pet Detection mode. Well, basically pets here narrow down to just a cat or a dog, so those who keep other exotic lifestock shouldn't feel discriminated against. With Pet Detection turned on, it will "recognize" your furry friend by modifying shooting conditions in order to obtain the best possible image with each shot. As for the Z700EXR, its most interesting aspect (apart from the Pet Detection mode) would be a 3.5" touchscreen display, although expect that feature to drain your battery faster than usual. No word on pricing or availability for either at press time, bummer.

Here’s the skinny: The new Cobra XRS 9970G and XRS 9965 both feature a 1.5-inch full color touchscreen. Neat, eh? No more random buttons to press while you’re probably speeding. Too bad that some dude’s fingers are essentially 1.5-inch thick sausages.
Both models have the standard city/highway modes, low car battery warnings, different color settings, and the ability to detect various radar and laser systems. Plus, the flagship XRS 9970G also comes with the Aura speed trap and red light camera database that displays graphical warnings when drivers are entering those zones. Simply hook up the unit to an internet connected computer via USB to update the database.
According to the press release, the big boy 9970G will feature a $379 MSRP, while the 9965 will be priced at $199 when both become available in March. But it seems that Bass Pro Shops of all places have both of them in stock, although they are price are slightly different at $359 for the 9970G and $229 for the 9965. Go figure.

The two new touch screen models simplify user setup and alert settings. The new XRS touch screen models, XRS 9970G and XRS 9965, feature a 1.5” full color graphic interface that makes setting up the radar detector fast and easy. Simply tap on the “menu” screen tab and scroll through the menus to set user settings such as the display colors, city/highway modes, IntelliMute™, Frequency Display Mode and other preferences, as well as the alert settings including turning on or off POP Mode, the detection of certain Bands and Low Car Battery Warning.
“The most inconvenient part of purchasing a new radar detector was setting it up,” said Tony Mirabelli, senior vice president of marketing and sales for Cobra. “With the new touch screen models, we’ve removed the fumbling through button combinations to make changes. Just tap and set.”

The AURA database stores GPS coordinates of speed and red light cameras and driving hazards. Users can access this database online and download daily updates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. By simply connecting the GPS Locator via USB, AURA subscribers synchronize the coordinates for the most current and accurate camera and dangerous intersection alerts. Drivers can also add up to 1,000 location-based alerts to ensure that they are alerted to temporary or moveable driving threats.
