Apple Battery Charger gets official: a battery charger, only you know, better (update: hands-on)
Apple's just slipped something into its iMac update press release that we didn't want to go unnoticed: a battery charger. Apple's AA battery-powered lineup now includes the wireless keyboard, the Magic Mouse (which seriously burns through the juice) and the Magic Trackpad, and for $29 you can score a dedicated charger for all that gear. The Apple Battery Charger comes with six long-lived NiMH rechargeable batteries which apparently have a lifetime of up to 10 years.
Update: We just had a chance to get a quick hands-on with the little guy, and well, it's a battery charger. Apple tells us the charger has the lowest vampire power draw of any charger on the market -- the idea is for users to keep two batteries in each of their peripherals and two in the charger, so they can quickly swap out as the cells run out. Interestingly, the batteries are some of the only Apple products in recent memory that don't have an Apple logo on them -- they're just plain silver with "Rechargeable" printed on them. The charger itself has slightly nicer charging contacts than the usual spring-and-flap arrangement, and it features the same removable flippy-prong AC plug as Apple's laptop and iPad power adapters, so you can theoretically swap it for a longer power cord if you like.

Apple announces an … AA battery charger?
Alright. Either this is the beginning of the end for the Apple brand as they start draining their fanboys dry or Apple has something special here. Either way, the Apple Battery Charger is real and ready to charge AA batteries. The Magic Trackpad joins the Wireless Keyboard and Magic Mouse’s AA-powered club. That’s where the Apple Battery Charger comes in.
The $29 kit comes with six AA batteries that Apple says has a 10-year lifetime. Of course YMMV, and while it’s a tad more pricey than other similar kits, Apple probably won’t have any problems turning a profit on the kit. If nothing else, the sleek and compact charging adapter that was clearly inspired by Apple’s charging bricks interests me. Ships in 2-4 business days.

Cellphone Charger With USB Nanogenerator Concept Keeps Devices Juiced

We've seen similar concepts before, but until such technology becomes commonplace, we're still excited every time someone comes up with such a design. We're talking about this kinetic charger that has been integrated into a pair of shoes, which allows you to hook your device up via USB cable, and the integrated nanogeneration system will begin to juice your device's battery when you walk or enjoy any kind of sports. Maybe in the future we'll all be charging our portable devices via kinetic energy generated while we walk.

JFE Engineering’s quick auto charger does 50% charge in three minutes, hits parking lots in March
While range is an unfortunate limiting factor for electric vehicles, slow recharging time is perhaps even more troubling. Going 100 miles on a charge would be okay if you could stop at the corner electron stand and top up your cells while hitting the potty, and JFE Engineering's quick charger gets makes that a reality, able to charge an EV's batteries to 50 percent in just three minutes. Five minutes gets you a 70 percent charge, but from there things go downhill, with 30 minutes required for an 80 percent charge. The company is now pledging that these units will be ready for installation at convenience shops and the like by March -- in Japan, of course. The "low cost" version is said to go for $60,000, while the standard model costs twice that. Fast-flowing electrons: expensive business.

E-rope Jump Rope Charger Concept

Using a skipping rope is a nice way to exercise, but sometimes you do feel that all your energy is being wasted. So what if you could put all that energy to good use? The e-rope concept is able to hold a pair of rechargeable AA batteries inside it, which are charged by the motion of the rope spinning around. The LED on the device will show when the batteries are fully charged, which should take about twenty minutes. Do you think you're willing to charge your batteries this way?

JumpStart Dual USB charger sports an integrated rechargeable battery
It's a sad fact of life, really. Regardless of where you go, you'll end up needing to recharge something in your carry-on. Just the mere thought of locating an AC adapter in that airport you're headed to is enough to give even the most hardened traveler a reason to think twice, and tracking down one of those inverters for your road trip is just about the last thing you'd like to be doing. DigiPower has just pushed out the solution to all of your problems, with the JumpStart Dual 2-in-1 battery / AC adapter offering the ability to juice up a pair of USB devices via the internal 1,700mAh rechargeable battery. Sadly for all of you iPad owners, each port is only capable of rejuvenating 5V devices, but there's a status indicator, emergency flashlight and folding plugs for "easy transport." The company claims that this can be recharged over 500 times, after which you'll need to contact Sir Odor Blocker after the break for a pinch of P-P-P-P-P-P-Power.
