HTC Droid Incredible getting FroYo update by August at worst

Word has just gone out that the HTC Droid Incredible (read our review) will be receiving the long awaited FroYo (Android 2.2) update by the end of this month at best, or early next month if things go awry – this is different from what we reported earlier. This new update will unlock 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity in your device, offering other features such as 3G Mobile Hot Spot and 720p video recording among others. If you have recently purchased a Droid Incredible, we would say that this is pretty good news since some other folks have to wait until a platform is obsolete before a software update is issued.

Acer shows off RevoView streaming hub

Acer paraded its RevoView streaming hub which is more or less similar to a small form factor version of the Revo, where you get USB connectivity which caters to external and flash drives, memory card slots, and UPnP network support among others. The hard drive itself can be as capacious as 2TB, depending on your budget while you have composite, component and HDMI for video output. Some of you out there might not be too happy with DiVX being omitted, but at least it supports AVI, MP4, MOV, RMVB and a few other less popular codecs if those are of any consolation to you. To kill even more time, there is also YouTube streaming support on the RevoView. No word on pricing or availability has been mentioned yet, but we hope to keep you updated on the latest developments.

Microsoft Kin Two teardown

The Kin Two from Microsoft is more or less the maiden collaboration between NVIDIA and Microsoft where a cellphone is concerned, where the folks at Chipworks took one apart to find an 8-megapixel image sensor within, making it one of the first few camera phones that features 720p HD video capability, not to mention 256MB RAM and 8-Gbit of flash memory for all your data storage needs. As for the front side of the board, it holds most of the chips including the CDMA power amplifier and processor, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/FM radio chipset, and stereo codec processor among others. The housing itself measures nearly 2cm thick - pretty hefty for a non-smartphone contender.

Samsung E65 eBook certified by Wi-Fi Alliance

The Wi-Fi Alliance has certified the Samsung E65, where this device is not a cellphone but actually an ebook reader, making it the successor to Samsung's first E60 ebook reader, albeit sporting a full QWERTY keyboard instead of the sliding form factor. You get a 6" e-ink display that boasts support for an electromagnetic resonance (EMR) stylus pen, coupled with text-to-speech, Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity, and MP3 playback capability among others. No doubt it has decent hardware to get you started, but will its content delivery system be good enough to keep up with the competition?

CatholicTV launches 3D programming. Yes, you read that correctly.
Paul would have been so jealous right now. Massachusetts-based CatholicTV has launched 3D programming on its Web site, and plans to launch a proper 3D TV network, à la ESPN 3D, shortly. Take me now, O Lord!
Right, so the network launched the 3D programming yesterday, and you can watch it right now if you have a pair of old school red-and-blue glasses. I don’t happen to have such a pair handy, so I’m not able to say things like, “Well, now I see what the fuss is all about!
You really ought to read the full Canadian Press story, because the guy in charge says some pretty great things, among others, calling 3D a “hot technology.” I haven’t been to a Catholic church in about five years, but I certainly don’t remember the priest using terms like “hot” to describe church goings-on.
All I know is, I’m going to make a killing selling 3D glasses to Broadway show-going tourists in Times Square. “Who wants to see Play when you can see it in 3D! Only $10 each!”
