Packard Bell Dot SE netbook arrives in Europe

Packard Bell Dot SE netbook arrives in Europe

Since Acer owns Packard Bell, don't be surprised that the Packard Bell Dot SE which will arrive in Europe closely resembles the recently unveiled Acer Aspire One D255 netbook. When it comes down to specifications, everything is more or less identical - case in point, a 10-inch display, an Intel Atom N550 1.5GHz dual core processor, 1GB of DDR2 memory (why not DDR3, we wonder), a 250GB hard drive, and Windows 7 Starter Edition as the operating system of choice. Its battery is able to chug along for around 7.5 hours which ought to be sufficient in this day and age, although not really suitable for long haul flights if you're a frequent traveler. Expect the Packard Bell Dot SE to retail for 400 Euros across the pond, so don't expect to see it arrive Stateside since you can get the identical Acer Aspire One D255 here instead.

Xperia X10 family’s Android 2.1 upgrade coming by end of September, says Sony Ericsson UK

When we talked to Sony Ericsson for the Xperia X10 for AT&T review, reps informed us that the phone is upgradeable but no further information could be provided. Now, we can't say if this latest bit is global or just for those across the pond, but the official Twitter account of SE's UK arm wrote today that Android 2.1 is "due for release before the end of September this year." Certainly a step up from the Q4 2010 time frame we heard previously, but again, we've no clue if this applies to the US as well -- we've messaged a stateside rep and will let you know what we hear. A blessing for some X10 family owners, just a cherry on top for others.

[Thanks, Henrik]

THQ uDraw GameTablet targets the Nintendo Wii

THQ has announced that the company will be rolling out a new peripheral for the Nintendo Wii console, where it will be known as the uDraw GameTablet. This will be a Wii-only exclusive, hitting the US in time for the mad holiday rush, but as for those of you living across the pond, early 2011 is your best bet - this means your kids will now hanker after you to make an import. THQ claims that their uDraw GameTablet will come bundled with an expansive drawing, coloring and art-based video game known as uDraw Studio, alongside a couple of other video games which were specially formulated to see action with the uDraw GameTablet, namely Pictionary and Dood’s Big Adventure. Featuring 4-inch x 6-inch drawing space and a detachable, pressure-sensitive, stylus, it is meant to deliver more subtle control and precision compared to the traditional Wiimote.

Dell Streak sells for $299 on contract and $549.99 unlocked

Dell Streak sells for $299 on contract and $549.99 unlocked

The Dell Streak will finally make its way to the US months after our friends living across the pond have had to privilege of playing with the Streak. Of course, while they also have a red colored model, we will have to make do with the charcoal shade for the moment. Retailing for $299 with a 2-year contract via AT&T (you can't just hold out for free Wi-Fi hotspots, you know) or $549.99 without, it is available for pre-order and will be released officially this August 13th - that's just 3 days away. Currently, it will be available on the Dell Mobile website only and not in AT&T stores, but that could very well change in an instant sometime down the road. Too bad Dell will still ship the Streak with Android 1.6, but they did mention that it “was designed with the future in mind to support future software, application and platform upgrades”. Hopefully upgrade here means Android 2.2 at the very least. You can sign up for the Dell Streak

Range Rover E-Range Will Be World’s First Electric SUV

Electric Range Rover hits UK market later this year.

Surely to become the vehicle of choice for environmentally-minded celebrities and athletes, an electric Range Rover with a whopping 200-mile range will become available in the U.K. later this year. According to the Telegraph, the E-Range, which was developed by Liberty Electric Cars, is the world's first totally electric SUV. The vehicle tops out at 110 mph, thanks to six Lithium Polymer batteries -- two under the hood and four on the undercarriage -- that power electric motors placed on each wheel. Most amazing of all, the SUV can be charged without being connected by a traditional power cord. Instead, the car's batteries, which have a 13-year and 300,000-mile lifetime, can be completely charged by parking it above an induction plate for just one to three hours.

Not only will you need a U.K. address to get behind the wheel of a new E-Range, but, at $225,500, you'll need a fat bank account, too. Don't fret, all you wealthy Americans: the E-Range will journey across the pond soon enough. Then, you can have your luxury status symbol and be eco-friendly, too. [From: The Telegraph]

Iomega Skin Hard Drives launched

Iomega Skin Hard Drives launched

Iomega has rolled out a trio of different 500GB portable hard drives under the Skin brand, boasting special designs and colors that will definitely cause wide open mouths among the older generation for bold and at times, provocative designs. All three models will be powered via USB 2.0, although we would have liked to see it support the USB 3.0 standard that will inevitably become the new standard in due time. First of all would be the "Radical" Skin Hard Drive model that features a retro Skin-branded printed logo design on a black top with a vibrant yellow base, creating a look that stands apart from any other portable hard drive. As for the "Red Hot" Skin Hard Drive model, it will come with a "Skin" Swipe logo printing on a red top with a black base, creating a definition of hip and hot for today's young iconoclastic computer user. Last but not least would be the "Knock Out" Skin Hard Drive model that features a dark, mysterious aura with a "Skin" Gothic logo design on a silver top with a black base. They not only look good, but will do their part in keeping your data within safe from drops, courtesy of Iomega's Drop Guard protection that can prevent data loss from accidental drops of up to 51" on to industrial carpet, which is 40% better than the industry average. They are now available for r $119.99 a pop, making their way across the pond to our European brethren from July onwards. [Press Release]
